Le Groupe Dance Lab is a registered charity and not-for-profit organization.

Le Groupe is one of Canada’s foremost contemporary dance companies, incorporated since 1967 as Le Groupe de la Place Royale.

In 1988, recognizing a way to develop the culture of Canadian dance, Artistic Director Peter Boneham changed the mandate of Le Groupe from a performing troupe to a research and development facility. Le Groupe Dance Lab now focuses on the creative process, the exploration and making of New Dance.

To date, Le Groupe Dance Lab remains the only institution in Ottawa, and in the world, that devotes its expertise and resources on a full-time basis to the creative process. The Dance Lab has served over 80 artists from the local and international dance milieus, and over 25 original works have been seeded at the Lab,gone into independent production and toured worldwide.
